Welcome to New Farm
Surrounded by the Brisbane River, New Farm is a mere 2 kilometres east of Brisbane's CBD.
Brunswick Street (joining neighbouring Fortitude Valley) is the main street of New Farm. Located on the corner of Brunswick Street and Merthyr Road is Merthyr Village, New Farm's main shopping centre, where you'll find a range of specialty shops and everyday amenities. The centre also features a number of cafes and restaurants, making it easy to sit back, relax and enjoy some fantastic food.
This lively suburb has a smorgasbord of ethnic restaurants, and the main thoroughfare abounds with al fresco eateries, cinemas, bookshops and art galleries.
New Farm Park is a must see attraction of the area, and keen observers may know it was used in the movie Fool's Gold. Covering 37 acres, the park is renowned for its hundreds of varieties of roses, as well as the graceful Moreton Bay fig trees, which are unique to Brisbane. With picnic and barbecue areas, a massive kids' playground, and stunning river frontage, New Farm Park has something for everyone.
Next door to New Farm Park is the Brisbane Powerhouse Arts Centre. In 2000, it was transformed from a decrepit power station into a vibrant new multi-arts, dining and conference venue. Set on the banks of the river, the Powerhouse is a meshing of industrial structure, raw texture and prime artistic space. In 2007, additions included a riverside cafe bar, concert stage and rooftop terrace. People of all ages will appreciate the uniqueness of the Powerhouse.
