Whether your passion is beach fishing, game fishing, crabbing or freshwater fishing, there is an ideal spot for it in the Brisbane area. Anglers have so many top fishing locations such as the coastal areas of Moreton Bay, the Brisbane River, and a number of well-stocked dams.
Local laws govern the number and size of fish that anglers can take, in order to protect this natural resource for the future. Moreton Bay is home to a massive variety of fish such as Tailor, Flathead and Whiting, and is visited by migrating species such as Tuna and Mackerel. The large channels running between the mainland and the Moreton Bay islands are reasonably deep and great fishing from boats or from the beach.
Nearer the reefs you are more likely to encounter other species such as Parrotfish, Cobia, Snapper, Squire, Sweetlip, Cod and Jewfish.
Please Note: Even though the bay is a reasonably sheltered area, the winds can change direction quickly, turning conditions nasty. Make sure that you check the weather forecast before you head out.

Considered the jewel of the crown in South East Queensland, Somerset is a popular spot stocked with Bass, Yellowbelly, Perch and the endangered Mary River Cod and protected lungfish. The lake is also home to growing numbers of Redclaw Crayfish.
Lake Somerset is open to all size boats and motors.

Fast becoming one of Queensland’s most popular water sports destinations, Lake Maroon is located just one hour from Brisbane in the heart of the Scenic Rim.
Lake Maroon is the ideal location for sailing, water skiing, parasailing and paddle boating.
Lake Maroon’s fishing is also proving popular, with it’s stocks of include Golden and Silver Perch, and the Australian Bass challenging fresh water fly fishermen.
Anglers will be required to obtain a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) to fish Lake Maroon.

Popular all year round, Moogerah boasts Bass, Yellowbelly and Perch with the occasional capture of the endangered Mary River Cod. More recently, reports have been made of Goldfish and Carp being caught. These fish must be destroyed and disposed of, with no part being returned to the dam.
There are no boating restrictions on Moogerah, and the lake is popular with skiers.
Please note: A Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP) is required to fish at any of South East Queensland’s dams.
