Speed limits and distances are expressed in kilometres (km) and a speed limit of 50km/h is enforced in residential and commercial areas, unless otherwise indicated. On highways the speed limit is usually 100km/h, unless otherwise indicated.

The Brisbane City Council regulates on-street parking in the central business district and inner city suburbs. Parking in the city isn't always easy, but it's worth studying the signs because the fines are much more expensive than the cost of the meter.

Parking Meters:
Many streets in Brisbane have metered parking, and the hours of operation, parking time limits and operating instructions are written on each meter.
Ensure that the parking space can be used in the time that you require, as some spaces cannot be used at certain times when the road becomes a clearway or operates as a bus zone. Be sure to check the maximum time you are allowed to park as some areas have shorter limits than others, and overstaying the limit - even if you have paid to do so - may result in a fine.
Motorcycle Parking:
If you have a motorbike, there are generally advantages to parking in the city centre. Motorbike riders usually have the same parking options and regulations as cars; however, some carparks offer discount rates for motorbikes, simply because they take up less space.
